Cell Counter for MicroStation V8

Last revised: April 4, 2002

Description

Cell Counter is a utility that provides the ability to summarize the cells that are in your design in a number of ways.

Installation Instructions

Place CellCounter.ma in the ..\mdlapps\ folder.

To run CellCounter

Key in: MDL LOAD CellCounter from the Key-in Browser

or

from Utilities > MDL Applications > Browse, select CellCounter

You are then presented with a dialog where you can specify the following criteria:

  • The types of cells to count
  • Whether you want to summarize the cells in your active model, all models, a selection set, or fence
  • Whether you want to include cells in reference attachments
  • How you want the output to be shown

New Features:

  • Choice of all models or active model in design file
  • Report dialog resizable
  • Report dialog columns sortable and resizable
  • Can copy from report dialog (multiple disjoint selection supported)
  • Handles nested reference files
  • Use tab character between fields in report file. This makes the file easier to bring into Excel if the cell names contain spaces.

  • We have determined this is NOT reliable. It fails to report ALL our cells in a dgn file. We had been relying on it but one of our Engineers noticed by a manual count that not all the instances of the cells were actually counted.  To verify this I manually went into the file and determined that while the program reported the cells it found it did not find all the cells of several.  This would seem tb be a fundamental function. Count the instances in a file of cell "A" and return the number of instances. Sadly this program is not reliable and does not do that in some cases.

Any further information on this would be appreciated. We create 3d models using lots of parts (cells).  These are not sophisticated but it would be advantageous to get and accurate count from the file. My managers are completely dismayed that this cannot be accomplished in Microstation.
