Modifying Text and Labels in 2D Drawings [MicroStation]

When generating a 2D drawing in ProStructures, the detail block that is inserted often appears as a single element when selected. In this blog we will look at how this can be rectified so that dimensions, labels and other text can be moved individually. Remember however that and changes to the physical elements themselves should be done back in the original model and not in the 2D.

The Single Object Issue

When a drawing is generated, regardless of what is selected, the entire block becomes highlighted and individual labels/text cannot be moved or changed.

The Solution

The first thing that needs to be done is to open the "Named Groups" dialog window. This can be found by going to the 'Workspace' section of the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Once this option has been selected, a dialog window will appear and show the named groups that exist in the current drawing. In order to make these detail blocks editable the option beside each group for 'Selectable' mus be unchecked so that the check mark is no longer showing.

You can find the check mark as indicated in the image below:

With the check mark disabled you should now be able to modify the call-outs, labels and more.

  • Hi Mike, thanks for the response.

With AutoCAD, the only thing that would prevent you from moving the labels around in a 2D drawing  is that the AutoCAD group function is enabled.  Depending on the AutoCAD version, try using Ctrl+H or Ctrl+Shift+A to toggle the group function off and this should have the same effect.
