Modifying Placed fields

Suppose you have a field pointing to certain property of an element and now you want to either point it to a different property or point it to a different element. There is amazing functionality of Edit and Reassign fields.


Edit Field: You can edit already placed field using Edit Field. This is available in right-click menu in Word Processor dialog.


Procedure to edit field:

  1. From "Task - Drawing" toolbar, select Edit Text tool. Select the field you want to edit.
    OR
    Double click on field, to edit the field in Word Processor dialog.
  2. In Word Processor, select the field you want to edit.
  3. Right click on field and select Edit Field. This will open Field Editor dialog.
    OR
    Double click on field to open Field Editor dialog.
  4. Select the new property and click OK.
  5. Select a point in the view to accept the change.

You can edit any field that you have placed in view window.

Reassign Field: Suppose you have an area field placed for Cylinder and you want to display area of the Slab, then you can use this functionality of Reassign field. You can reassign only Element Properties field.

Procedure to Reassign Field:

  1. From "Task - Drawing" toolbar, select Edit Field tool. Select the field you want to edit.
    OR
    Double click on field, to edit the field in word processor dialog.
  2. In Word processor, select the field you want to reassign.
  3. Right click on field and select Reassign Field.
  4. Select the element whose property you want to reassign.
  5. Select a point in the view to accept the changed property.
