An Anniversary

One real good definition of anniversary (thanks Google!) is "the date on which an event occurred in some previous year". Some people have a tendency of forgetting anniversaries (oops), while others would prefer to not remember them. An important Bentley first anniversary that I wanted to point out happened on November 6 -- it was the joint V8i and Be Communities launch that took place last year in Philadelphia.

Why make mention of it? Well, since then, we have seen infrastructure professionals put many SELECTseries 1 products in their production workflows (with others in the queue) while utilizing Be Communities more and more.

The SELECTseries 1 "release" across our software portfolio for infrastructure professionals is significant, highlighted by MicroStation V8i, which includes RealDWG library support and integrated 3D printing capabilities as well as the ability to product i-models, and ProjectWise Navigator, which can be used by infrastructure teams to interactively view, analyze, and augment project information for iterative project review.

Since Be Communities was officially launched on November 6, 2008, there has been ever-increasing activity and growth all across the site, including:

  • over 30,000 members
  • over 100,000 postings
  • thousands of informative technical articles on the wiki
  • many communities that are specific to Bentley Solutions, Be User Groups, and common interests
  • a number of BeMVPs

and much more. But we are not done... planning is currently underway for Be Communities "v2.0", which we expect will result in an even better user experience for infrastructure professionals who want to connect, communicate, and learn from each other. We certainly will not be implementing in a vacuum, either. We have been taking feedback provided into consideration and will be going through various "pre-release" stages to ensure that we are taking steps forward and not backward.

I am already looking forward to next year's anniversary.
