The Whole is Greater than the Sum of the Parts (Part 3 - EPC – Getting the Owner Requirements)

(This is the third in a series looking at the benefits of using promis•e in all phases of the Plant design process)
When an Owner specifies their requirements to an EPC the EPC is frequently given high level requirements and in some cases references to existing plants. When owners refer to existing construction, whether the old design was done by the EPC or another company, the information is difficult to sort thru and often difficult to reuse. They may be paper drawings, scans, PDF's or drawings in various formats.
If the Owner can provide promis•e drawings, things can be much simpler. The promis•e product works with structured projects. If the Owner makes reference to a particular portion of a project (Installation /Location), the related drawings can easily be found by using the project manager.
Signal cross-references make it easy to analyze the existing project. Every device and wire connection displays a cross reference to wherever a related device or wire exits in the project, even if it leads to a different installation/location. Analysis is much faster than with conventional CAD drawings. Since all of the drawings are tied to a database, any information in the drawings can be extracted into concise reports. Complexity can quickly be determined by reviewing reports for component quantities and types, and number of wires and cables being used. If the Owner has specific hardware requirements, all of the current components can be easily found on the drawings and in the reports. Parts databases with "time to wire" and "time to build" entries make construction estimates fast and accurate with drawings or just a preliminary BOM.
Rapid analysis of the work that the Owner is requesting results in faster more accurate bidding. This means more bids won and at a lower cost for generating the bid.
