The Whole is Greater than the Sum of the Parts (Part 6 – Supplier to EPC turn over)

(This is the sixth in a series looking at the benefits of using promis•e in all phases of the Plant design process)

When the supplier returns drawings back to an EPC they usually are recreated from what the EPC originally gave to the supplier. Detailed wiring and part information has been added along with layout drawings and, possibly, wireing diagrams. The information has probably acquired a few errors after being redrawn and needs to be checked before release for construction. Connections need to be shown and cross-referenced to indicate where the supplier drawings connect to the field wiring. Wire numbers and cable designations need to be consistent across all drawings.
The process becomes much easier if the Supplier and EPC are both promis•e users.

• If the supplier has merely added information to a promis•e set of drawings, originally sent from the EPC, the checking process is much quicker. Since the promis•e drawings have been under promis•e real-time error checking for every step of the design process, there are inevitably far fewer problems to find.
• An added function of the Equipment number replacement functionality is that users can easily toggle between viewing the equipment number or the manufacture part numbers on the drawing or in the reports. The result is that the EPC does not have to become familiar with a wide assortment of Manufacture specific part numbers.
• Field wiring connection that existed before being sent to the supplier remain intact after being sent back, requiring minimal re-work.
• Because of the installation/location concept of promis•e portions of projects can also be split up to different groups and re-assembled on return.
