Hypermodeling infuses the project’s documentation into the 3D model, automatically.
After using BIM for 10 years myself I noticed it goes only half way (or less). To automate documents is one thing, but this does nothing at all, really, to improve the communicative effectiveness of documentation, the purpose of which is - to communicate effectively. It's about the medium of communication itself, which needs improvement. This is achieved (now) by infusing the project’s documentation into 3D, automatically. ..which is not unlike infusing synchronized audio into moving picture, because doing so elevates the effectiveness of both audio (contextualized in picture) and picture (clarified by synchronized sound). Without Hypermodeling, you're just making silent film - speechless 3D that cannot be delivered because it carries nothing but ambiguity. Now the model is clarified by exactly what the team said it wanted to say about a project in its documentation..
Rob,
I don't no much about blog's or blog etiquette so let me know if this is not the place for this debate.
It's not that I disagree with what your trying to accomplish. Quite the opposite I agree this is where the technology need to move. But technology lives and dies by implementation.
Good implementation = acceptance = success.
Poor implementation = rejection = failure.
Just having the best technology is in and of it self meaningless if nobody uses it. The guy on the ladder doesn't want to go to training, he does't want to change how he's done things for the last 20 years and he really doesn't want to be juggling a laptop around. Have you ever dragged one of those things around in the field for a day or a week? Trust me it sucks, plus they don't even have the battery life to last a full working day. The only way you will get a him to buy in to this is to prove it will make his life easier.
I would really need to see something a little more concrete about what "infusion" is. In my opinion the way data gets attached to graphics is a bit of a cluster... You have , tags, links, engineering links, db linkages.
I have yet to get any of them to create properly linked documents. Attribute data needs an total overhaul. If I float my cursor over a line do I want to see "level... file.." or do I want to see. 110 AC Panel 6 Circuit 9. ?
To make this work you need to.
A) Make it easy to get the data in.
B) Make it easy to get the data out.
I you can't do that then people will continue to stick draw and print.
There are a number of devices that have come out this year that offer a glimmer of hope at the holy grail of AEC cad, going paperless. But those devices aren't windows based. If your not working on a fast, cheap and easy way to navigate your data on those devices you will have missed the boat.
