MX v8i Line Styles in Microstation

Hi All

I've been neglecting the MX Users blog posts as of late but have a few posts lined up to make up for it.

This post relates to using MX line style as used in MX style sets in the Microstation CAD platform.

When MX is initially installed it has Microstation line style files (*.rsc) stored in C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MX\mfm\data (this example is the Windows 7 path).

One of there line style files is called mxwrklsf.rsc and will initially be empty when MX is first installed. This file is updated with the MX line styles when an MX model is loaded into a drawing, MX converts them automatically over to the Microstation line style format.

You can view the line styles in this file using the Line Style Editor (Element>Line Styles>Edit).

If you export an MX model to a Native DGN the Microstation CAD platform will not have the MX line styles so the DGN won't appear as it did in MX.
The mxwrklsf.rsc needs to be copied from MX over to the Microstation CAD platform. To determine the location to copy the file to you need to check the *.rsc paths in the Configuration panel.

If you have a central company location for line style file it would be a good location to store mxwrklsf.rsc.

When you open the Native DGN file in Microstation the line styles should now appear correctly.

It is worth noting that if you create new line styles in an MX style set you will have to load the corresponding MX model to a drawing file and copy the updated mxwrklsf.rsc to the Microstation CAD platform again.
