STAAD Foundation Advanced released

A new generation of Foundation analysis and design software, STAAD Foundation Advanced, has been recently released. It replaces the STAAD.foundation software with more design codes, more functionality to basic modules, and new advanced modules.

Licensing

It is very important to note that this is not an automatic update from old STAAD.foundation software. The license for STAAD Foundation Advanced is different than the license used in STAAD.foundation. So, to run this program, existing users of STAAD.foundation need to contact their respective Bentley sales representative to get a new license.

New features

This release adds the missing plant modules like annular ring tank foundation and laterally loaded drilled pier analysis.


But the most important aspect of this program is to create a foundation design system typical to EPC companies. The key component to the EPC-like environment is a spreadsheet connection. With the adoption of SpreadSheetML technology, all required input can be defined in Microsoft® Excel. Most input required by the program now can be imported from an Excel spreadsheet and export back to the spreadsheet for more editing. The same technology is again used to create a detailed output file where output tables for all steps and for all load cases can be exported to a spreadsheet. This could be a major help to the engineers who like to review the design results.

The major new features of this version are

  5. Eurocode for general mode
  6. Octagonal footing in general mode
  7. Strap footing (two isolated footing connected by a beam) in general mode

Visual Enhancements

STAAD Foundation Advanced has implemented the Ribbon Control interface, which is the new standard for windows based modern software. This interface follows Microsoft Office® as closely as possible and should be familiar with users of Microsoft Office 2007 and more recent. 


 

Other enhancements

In addition to many new features, there are several enhancements on this new product. Two major enhancements are:

  1. Enhanced detailed drawing
  2. Calculation sheet customization

The quality of automated detailed drawings is greatly enhanced by the introduction of paper space and model space. Different viewports of plan, elevation, and sectional drawings now have different scales. Layer tags are introduced for further processing in a CAD environment.

Based on popular demand, now the calculation sheet can be customized. Depending of module types, calculation sheet customization option dialog box will be populated with options for the calculation sections. It is essentially a group of check boxes to turn on/off a particular report section.

  • please let me know whether for design of combined footing staad foundation considers net bearing pressure

  • I think staad foundation advance still needs to be improved. Here are some suggestions.

    1- When we import load cases and combinations from staad, we have to change description of every load and load cases by selection each one by one (i.e it is primary load case, ultimate load case or allowable load case. Can you please create an option or introduce a feature so that it can be done in minimum steps.

    2- Can you please introduce a feature to import load cases and combination from excel or notepad file and load template can also be saved from staad foundation advance to notepad or excel file.

    3- There should also be a feature to design combined footing with four pedestals (two in front  of each other, not like strip footing) by rigid method.

    4- There should also be a feature to design combined footing with four pedestals of following shape by rigid method.

    5- Its detaied output in excel show only output results,There should also included some basic inputs and footing sketch showing  overall dimension and pedestal sizes.Even its detailed output report does not show  calculated reinforcement in both footing and pedestals.

    6- For heat exchanger and vessels there is no input of reinforcement dia and spacing for pedestal design. also it offently fail footing in shear while other softwares not.

    7- When it is fail in punching shear then design is skip. Calculation does not show that from which factor it is failing.

  • So, having a STAAD.Pro license which includes STAAD.Foundation ver5.3 will not allow me to upgrade to the latest version 6.2? I have to buy another license?

  • Still awaiting Aust codes for all drilled piers and pile caps as well as the other S.A design functions
