Time for REAL interoperability! Change names for things...

Well folks isn't it nice with the Autodesk-Bentley agreement which might lead to better communication between AutoCAD and MicroStation.....

But should we not now start talking about really making it easy for people to make the transition between different software platforms?  We can all participate.

Let us first start with names - Let us call a Layer a Layer in MicroStation too. Historically it all came from Overlay technique in the pre-CADdays so....let us leave the silly "levels" behind....much easier for everyone using Autodesk, Adobe, Gimp etc...they all use "layer".....

AND both CELL and BLOCK are a bit silly - let us place them in jail where they belong in a cellblock somwwhere. But what name should we use then? I would suggest SYMBOL as the complex elements/objects created often are just that....

Then last for now - let a RECTANGLE finally be just that! Let us loose the weirdness of the term BLOCK for this!

This can make the start of a real CAD terminology standard where "a spade is a spade" but will not make the platforms change. Let's face it neither Autodesk nor Bentley want to loose what is neat about their platform. But I guess that both really want users to convert to theirs.
