I have scanned a secant pile wall and now I am trying to clip the point cloud with an element. The element is constructed by lines defining different distances from the front of the pile wall. I have made a shape (both complex and simpel).
I am using 08.11.09.655. A colleague of mine with the same version has the same problem, but on a different pc.

Refreshing, fit-all and like do not do any difference.
When I get the chance I will try downgrading my microstation to .605 or see if I can find a colleague with a version.605.

Thanks for all your help so far,

Thanks for your dataset.

Unfortunately it seems to work fine with MicroStation V8i 08.11.09.608 aside that there is a small refresh problem thus I need to zoom out to see the clipping occuring after I have set the clip.

In fact when I first open your .dgn in MicroStation V8i 08.11.09.608 the clip was already applied to the point cloud correctly.

Also if you can apply the clip your MicroStation V8i it means that the element is valid.

Which version of MicroStation are you using?

Thanks,

I am uploading as we speak. It is a 300mb POD-file (tbt_bentley.pod) and a dgn (tbt_bentley.dgn). I cannot see if there is any progress in the uploading, but it is getting late here in Denmark. I will check if the download has worked tomorrow.
The DGN contains one of the elements I have tried to use as a clip element. I cannot get it to work in v8i SS3, but it works in Connect edition EAP3.
Funny thing is that it looks like I can do the clip in v8i (where it seems that it is not working), but then when I open the file in EAP3 the clip is active and functioning...

RE: Clipping point clouds with element

Hi Morten,

Hmm, it is very strange that the MicroStation Connect EAP3 works for you since the element validation code is the same that in V8i?

Maybe if you could send me a small dataset I can check why it doesn't work on Microstation V8i.

By the way here are the elements supported by the point cloud clip tool :

- Shape
- Complex shape
- Solid Slab

Also note that no smart solids are supported.

Thanks,
Right now I am using the beta 3, and it does not have the same limitations as v8i. I can both clip by element and export.
A solution for v8i would still be nice.

RE: Clipping point clouds with element

Do you know what these limitations are?
Unfortunately the kind of elements that are supported by the point cloud clipping function is limited (see communities.bentley.com/.../314873).
I need to export the clipped area. I have done similar before - but with simpler elements.

If I attach a new dgn with the point cloud I can clip the reference with the element and the point cloud in the reference gets clipped. But I cannot export the point cloud in the reference fil and if I merge the clipped reference into the master I merge the entire point cloud and not only the clipped area.
