Hello Again,

I've managed to get out a reduced segment of point cloud to a POD file by outputting 'All points', and checking the 'only output points in box' when exporting.

The problem i'm having now is when I output to PTS format, the cloud loses its coordinate system, and now only appear to output a few points?

Please can you advise how I should be exporting to PTS format (where are the options for this?), so the output retain its coordinate system and maintains fidelity of points.

My current version is 02.00.01.01, build 2.0130201. - I used your link to find the update but was unsuccessful? Please can you send me the update file.

PS is it worth getting Descartes installed as an alternative to using point tools?

Hi Alex,

Once you have installed the new version you will find the Visible points version as an option in the Export (POD) dialogue box. See below:

Hello again, sadly it failed again. I left it overnight, and this morning and it had crashed.

How do I export only the visible points and how do I use the grid option? If the grid is visible when I export, does it apply the split automatically - there's no reference to the grid (or I haven't found it yet) in the user manual?

I should think so. However that is a large POD file (87GB) and the PTS will be a lot larger. You would be better off dividing the point cloud into about a number of parts and creating individual PTS files from each of those. Use the Grid tool to divide the point cloud.

Currently, the export stands at a full export bar, but still incomplete?

It appears to be still exporting (the computer is still working, and pointools is still running in the task window), but the bar is full. I'm assuming it's still processing?

I've exported to a .POD in the past, but this has ended up in crash!

Currently, exporting using ALL to a .pod and it appears to be working, but as yet incomplete.

My build is out-of-date - can you advise where I can get the update?

Just to clarify. Please ensure that you are on the latest build and try again. If this fails double check that all points are visible on screen. How large is the scan data? If you have done a lot of Editing you may want to Export to POD first and then Export the new POD to PTS.

Ok. Are all points actually visible on screen? Can you try again using the ALL option and let us know what happens. Also please ensure that you are using the latest build which is Bentley Pointools V8i Update 1 (02.00.02.30).

When exporting to .PTS there are no options (?), but when I export to .POD there are? I've added a screen shot above, thanks for your reply

Can you confirm all of the Settings that you are using in the Export dialogue box?
