convert terrain to DEM (geotiff)

Does anyone know how I can convert a terrain to a DEM in geotiff format?

Using Descartes, open the "Scalable terrain Model" dialog. Then, in that dialog, go to Edit > Extract Raster Grid. 
 
The tool can extract Geotiff DEMs from STM files and Terrain Model elements.
