Unhandled Exception Error

Are you having a problem with all point clouds? Is your point cloud a FARO? If so, look at website:

You can download Bentley PodCreator from the Bentley Software Download Fulfillment site and try converting your Point Cloud. Bentley PODCreator is a free download that will allow you to convert Pont Cloud files to POD files that can be attached in Bentley Descartes > Point Cloud

Point Cloud is fine on everyone else's machine in my team. Ive uninstalled Descartes and Reinstalled, no change. I'm on Windows 10, could that be why?

In MicroStation > File > Point Clouds are you able to attach your Point Cloud files? If not, then uninstall Descartes and then uninstall MicroStation. Delete the files and folders where MicroStation and Descartes were installed. (Program Files x86\Bentley and Program Data\Bentley.) Reinstall MicroStation and Descartes. Make sure you are installing compatible versions of MicroStation and Descartes. For example if you are installing Bentley Descartes for MicroStation 08.11.09.720 then you will need to install MicroStation 08.11.09.829. If you are installing Bentley Descartes for MicroStation 08.11.09.601 then you will need to install MicroStation 08.11.09.608.

i can attach POD Files ok, i struggled then to do anything with them.

whats the significance of the Version numbers? how do i know if one is compatible with the other? My current Microstation Version is 08.11.09.748 and Descartes is 08.11.09.432

The compatible version of MicroStation for Descartes 08.11.09.432 is MicroStation 08.11.09.459. If you are running MicroStation 08.11.09.748 then you will need to run Descartes 08.11.09.601. The latest release of MicroStation and Descartes is MicroStation 08.11.09.829 and Descartes for MicroStation 08.11.09.720. MicroStation 08.11.09.832 is also compatible with Descartes for MicroStation 08.11.09.720.

my 748 version of MS was given to me by Bentley as a test installation to fix an error i had reported. should i, if i dont have access to a newer correct version of DS, after the test reinstall the original version i had you think?

If MicroStation 08.11.09.748 was give to you to resolve an issue then you will lose the fix if you go back to the MicroStation 08.11.09.459. There were changes made in Descartes where users have the ability to use multiple power platform products. You may run into compatibility issues running incompatible versions MicroStation and Descartes. If you backwards to an older version of MicroStation and Descartes or if you go forward and install later releases of MicroStation and Descartes it is recommended that you uninstall Descartes and then uninstall MicroStation and then install compatible version of MicroStation and then compatible version of Descartes. if possible it is recommended that you install the latest versions of MicroStation and Descartes.

im now getting this error on Descartes 08.11.09.432 and my MicroStation is 08.11.09.459

In MicroStation if you do File > Point Cloud and attach the POD file do you get an error message?
Did you uninstall Descartes and then MicroStation 08.11.09.748 and then clean up the files and folders where MicroStation and Descartes were installed and then reboot and install MicroStation and then Descartes?
Are you the only one that is having a problem attaching and displaying POD files?
Are you trying to attach POD files or are you trying to attach a scan file like LAS, PTS, XYZ, FLS or E57?

In MicroStation if you do File > Point Cloud and attach the POD file do you get an error message?
* attached a POD in MS, no issues. Look at same file in Descartes and try and use 'POD Presentation' and get the error

* Not yet. reason is because other people have started having the issue that didn't have my specific version of MS

*No, its happening randomly on machines with same versions. i diont see any difference between these machines?!?!

* Definitely a POD

i have noticed we have Bentley Rail Track on machines with the Descartes error, but not on the ones that dont have the error. is there any known issues between them?

There are no issues that we are aware (using Rail Track) of but we will test this and confirm. The problem only occurs when you try to open the Presentation Dialogue. Does this happen only when a point cloud is attached i.e. If there is no Point cloud attached will the dialogue open without any error?

If it errors only when a point cloud is attached is the problem file specific or is it happening with every POD file that you load?

Does the error message appear also appear if you try and access the command from the View Attributes?

The Presentation Dialogue will not be available from the View Attributes if no point cloud is loaded.
