ContextCapture LAS Export/Import

I'm using ContextCapture Master v4.1.0.514 and have georeferenced my photos in my reconstruction, created a new production to LAS format. When I try to bring the LAS file into MicroStation SS3 it converts the LAS to a POD but without color. I've played with the properties and yes the RGB value is turned on too but the point cloud is white. I've exported the same reconstruction into a production POD file. That file opens correctly in SS3 with color. The reason I need the LAS file is that I also have to import it into Recap for viewing in Navisworks for my client (once in Recap the RGB values come back, and in Navisworks)?? However I also have to import it into Cyclone, down to Cloudworx and ultimately into SmartPlant for Design verification. Once in Cyclone/Cloudworx/SmartPlant the RGB values are no longer present. Something tells me they are there since Recap can see them, but why can't MicroStation??? What version of LAS file is exported from ContextCapture 1.1, 1.2, 1.3? Any help you can provide would be much appreciated!

Thank you.

  • Hi Jonathan,
We currently support LAS version 1.2. I have tested the LAS files created by ContextCapture and can confirm that the RGB should be there. I do note that you are using older versions of ContextCapture and MicroStation. Please login to the Support Portal on www.bentley.com to download more up to date versions. One thing you can do to test the LAS file you are creating is to download the Bentley Pointools PODcreator and use this to convert the LAS to POD. You should find that if there is any colour in the LAS it will display in the POD file you created. The PODCreator is iWare and can be downloaded here:

My recommendation would be that you ensure that you are running more up to date versions of MicroStation and ContextCapture and then try again.
