ContextCapture run time

I dug into it a bit more, and I found where the log files for each completed job are kept (in c:\Users\<username>\Documents\Bentley\ContextCapture Desktop\Jobs\Completed). There's an XML file for each job that shows the start and end times for each job.

What's puzzling is that I ran a 3d mesh construction job on a particular set of images on a machine with an Nvidia GTX 1060 (CC rating of 88) and the same job on a machine with an Nvidia GTX 1080 (CC rating of 188). I would expect the 1080 to finish much faster, but it turns out that they finished in exactly the same time. Both laptops have very similar CPUs.

Does CC not utilize the GPU very much?

Having a faster graphics card will make a big difference, provided there isnt a bottleneck somewhere else in the system. What kind of CPU and storage are you using?

Thanks for your response. I have two systems, both with very similar specs (7th gen Intel Core i7 processors, very fast SSDs (PCIE Gen3x4), 16 GB DDR5 RAM). One has an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 and the other has a 1080. I would expect the one with a 1080 should execute much faster. I ran a job creating a 3D mesh from 809 3000x4000 photos. The 1060 took 11 hours to process and the 1080 came in at 14 minutes faster. I expected the 1080 to make more of a difference.

Any ideas?

I'm not concerned about the 14 minutes. I'm trying to decide whether I want to buy a PC with a 1060 vs. a 1080. Everyone keeps telling me that a 1080 will outperform a 1060 by a long shot, so I was expecting a greater difference. The bottom-line question is why does the 1080 only offer a slight performance improvement in my case?

I havent tested the 1060 vs the 1080 but i have tested cards in previous generations against themselves and the faster cards always perform better. My thoughts are there could be a bottleneck somewhere else in the system or a thermal issue. I know the 980TI would throttle its speed when it hit a certain temperature. Perhaps the 1080 is doing the same (though I am somewhat doubtful. I believe the TI cards throttle because they are basically "suped up" versions of the regular card which results in them running hotter).

Computer specs: 7th-gen Intel Core i7, 2.8 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, 16 GB RAM, fast 128 GB SSD. There are 809 images, each is 4000 x 3000 pixels (so each image is 12 megapixels). The CPU was getting pretty hot (80 degrees Celsius), but the graphics card was cooler, but it was being used.
