Exporting POD files from Trimble RealWorks

I know we have had issues creating STM files from Trimble RealWorks point cloud files.

Unfortunately, Trimble is not a Bentley Product and although you may have the option to export to POD you will need to contact Trimble to find what options are available. If you are a Bentley user you may be able to save to another file format that includes the classification and the use the Bentley PODcreator to create you POD files including the classification.

I've been exporting the point cloud from RealWorks in a variety of formats and then converting to POD using Bentley Pointools POD Creator. However, once I attach the pods in Descartes I only have generic classification layers, not those created in RealWorks.
Does the pod format allow for custom classification layers? If not, am I correct in assuming that I need to create a separate pod for each classification layer? For example, in RealWorks I have separated the different classes within a point cloud and named them accordingly, i.e. Equipment, Buildings, Walls, Fences, etc. and I want this classification to follow to the pod. Is this possible?

Hi Paul,
I think the actual classifications should still be in the POD but you will have to redefine the names. If you set the View Display Style to Classification in Descartes you should see the different classification items. Only the names will not be imported. The classification names can be redefined in the Reality Model Presentation dialogue box (Class Definitions tab).
