ContextCapture Editor - Mesh modification

Hi, where can I find video or tips and trick using the differents mesh manipulation tools in CCeditor with mesh done from Realitymodeling (OBJ, 3mx or other).

My problem is when doing many manipulation I'm losing the "photo material".  Is there any tips on cuting our model then filing holes and get the "photo material" applied back to the mesh?

If not what are the options? I just create a new mesh and apply some regular material?  Will How will contextcapture handle this back?

Thanks

  • Thanks for taking the time to answer me, I already had a look at all the videos on YouTube.

I know how to delete a part of mesh, how to trim my model, it's fairly well explain on your videos.

What I'm looking for is how to use those tools:

and what are the impact on using them to modify a contextcapture model (OBJ).  What can I do what I can't do.  What tools will completly destroy the mesh and what tools are OK.

    Thanks in advance

  • Jeremie, I have the same questions as you.  Were you ever able to get info on these tools?  Editing complex meshes in CCEditor using the method they explain in their videos is insanely time consuming and tedious.

  • Hi Joe,

The mesh tools in ContextCaptureEditor are really the same delivered by Bentley MicroStation. As with most MicroStation tools there are quite generic, thus powerful, but not necessarily the easiest to use.

We are aware of that and evaluating improvement that could be done to the old reality mesh editing process.

One small improvement recently done is to replace the intermediate .obj file by a .dgn file.

Hopefully more improvements will be brought to you in the future.

    Thanks,

    Mathieu

  • Ok I have try some testing and the best way to do this:  If you think you are going to modify a model done with Contextcapture first thing to do is to make small tiles, easier to edit and to reprocess.  Now when you edit a mesh: never drop the mesh, use the editing mesh tools.  Always close mesh void (if you want the material apply on the holes). Mesh unite or mesh stich does not work so you cannot add a new part and hope to have the photo material apply to it.  Sometime you erase a part of the mesh close the holes and you will still lose the photo material when you reprocess in contextcapture.  So basicaly, you do a small modification, you save, then reprocess (hence the small tiles) if it's good you continue, if not undo (in microstation) and reprocess in contextcapture.  It's really time consumming to make modifications and the tools really need improvement to be compatible with Contextcapture (or Contextcapture need improvement to be compatible with the tools..).

We need to know what tools work and what tools don't, what's the point of having a very nice editor that destroy your rendering?

  • Yes the texture corruption is really annoying. Just don't import back model with textures, use only retouched geometry.

So called Editor is based on Microstation and Microstation mesh editing tools are bad for large meshes. There is need for some new mesh element format in DGN which is easier to modify.
