[Contextcapture Editor] Not usable for real-life model retouching

Is the Contextcapture Editor some kind of joke? We are unable to edit any real models using it. If the model for retouching DGN/OBJ is quite large like 200-400MB then the Contextcapture Editor can't handle it as the mesh is very slow to display and no snap is possible. Also even if model is edited then importing it back it introduces more issues in 3mx model. It seems that for some reason CC Editor divides mesh in lot of segments when opening and after retouch Contextcapture can't merge all meshes correctly. Editing works correctly only for very small models which opens as one mesh.

There are no issues if using third party software (Meshlab or Meshmixer) to touchup the mesh but not with CC Editor.

  • I've been trying to do this for a few weeks and I'm no closer.

The youtube retouching video got me to a point where I could create a fence and clip it's contents but all I'm getting is the whole mesh gets deleted.  Now I find this thread that is suggesting my mesh is too big.. is there a way to separate this into smaller components that will work with the retouching workflow?

Has Bentley got any documentation of the Limitations?

Is anyone able to shed light onto how I can use the Modify Mesh tools. By description they are exactly what I'm looking for..

I have a series of coastal missions I need to fly and I would like to keep as much detail of the waters edge before the Tsunami effect starts.

Any other suggestions? Surface constraints doesn't really work as I would like to use a varying elevation.

  • Hi Graham,

Is this the video you are talking about : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xm8o6kETml0?

If so you should be able to use Modify Mesh tool.

Also note that in the latest version of ContextCapture you don't have to pass by a .obj file, you can directly export a ContextCapture tile to a .dgn and reimport the .dgn.

    Hi Mathieu,

i tried to produce a DGN for retouch from CC Master Connect, then I added it as Reference in Editor. I've been able to clip fence just once (the top side of a bridge) but when I tried to clip the bottom side, the whole mesh has been erased.

With the OBJ file export from CC Master, this does not happen.

    What I'm doing wrong?

    Thanks.
