incomplete model in Context Capture

Hi, I'm new to Context Capture and have just run a reconstruction and it has lots of missing information in the model. This was made out of 290 DSLR photos and the subject is only about 30' long. As you can see there was lots of overlap. I took photos all the way around the subject from eye level, then took two more laps with the camera held high and then low. Any ideas why there is so much missing information? Is CC like LiDAR in that it doesn't like dark shiny objects? My scanner did a good job of capturing it. Thanks,

Scott

  • Hi Scott,

Multi-photogrammetry and computer vision theory requires that the imagery from the sensors be consistent. In your case it seems that your strategy for the collection of your subject did not take into consideration the limitations of your sensor frame (camera). A sensor that does not deal with noise efficiency will generate unstable imagery. Ensure that your focal length is

fix and your are not changing the focus. Cameras with CMOS sensor tender to deliver consistent imagery because the pixels and sensors are designed differently.

The Sony α290 has a 9-point AF system and takes all Sony α/Minolta AF mount lenses. The 14.0 megapixel APS-C (23.5 mm × 15.7 mm) sized CCD sensor has a max ISO of 3200, however when using ISO 800 the photos start to get noisy and 1600 and 3200 have very bad noise.

You might need to get closer to your subject with a top aerial view collect as well.
