Hi all,
Did anyone come across uploading a geoid model into Context Capture when undertaking aerial surveying in UK. An OSGM15 geoid model file in .gtx format is required to be uploaded, so I was wondering whether anyone has already obtained the geoid model in this format.
I have tried converting a geoid .txt file from https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/business-and-government/help-and-support/navigation-technology/os-net/formats-for-developers.html into a .gtx file using Eye4software (hydromagic), however that does not seem to work.
Many thanks
You should have converted GSB or ASC or GRI formats and not txt.
Try these already converted OSGM15 geoids - https://github.com/elmirjagudin/gri2gtx
Thank you very much Oto.
Do you know whether it makes any difference by using a geoid model from no using one at all?
It depends if your model has to align with existing elevation data. For orthometric height at least EGM96 should be used. Geoids make it easier to add GCP from surveying.
Using custom geoid there is drawback that model will not correctly open in CC Viewer if the geoid is not added to viewer also. So check difference between OSGM15 and EGM96 and if difference is small then better use OSGM15 only for GCP but deliver model in EGM96 and say it is delivered in OSGM15
