Hello ,
I have a group of photos taken from a drone , and for the same area a pointcloud from a Faro lidar (e57 format, static measurments). My Faro measurments are without RGB.
For some reason , I'm not able to see the true reasults that the CC supposed to make. There is no improvment at the texture of the objects. All I see is white dots above the photorealistic mesh.
Is that because of the fact that there are no RGB data in the pointcloud ? Both are georefrenced.
Thank you!
Hello,
The issue that you are seeing is usually due to a misalignment between the two data sources. Although both sources are georeferenced there can sometimes be a height difference which would cause the problem that you have. To create a mesh from both sources I would advise the following:
1) Add referenced images and run AT
2) Add referenced point cloud to block (make sure to include scanner positions)
3) Run AT using option "Use point clouds for adjustment"
4) Submit new reconstruction

The above should give you an improved result as the point cloud is used to register the image data so it merges with greater accuracy. If you're still seeing issues after trying the above then I would put in an service request so we can look into your data.
Thanks.
Hi Jerard , thanks for the quick reply.
I did all the following as you suggested but unfortunately I still don't see an improvment at the geometric of the objects. I do still see the white and grey dots over the area.
Are there any conditions for the pointcloud in order for it to mesh and improve the geometry ? I do not have RGB data in my cloud as there is in the example given in the youtube video.
It's hard to comment without seeing the data but if the above did not work it's usually to do with the noise of the lidar data. If the lidar data has a lot of noise this can cause the white and grey dots over the area. To get the best results you really need a dense scan with limited noise.
If you put in a SR at connect.bentley.com then support will be able to take a look at your data set with you.
Thanks,
Is it possible to get/find anywhere the algorithm of combining the lidar data and the photos to a 3d mesh?
