Convert any 3D model to Reality mesh

Is it possible to convert any 3D model(like OBJ or DGN) to S3C/3MX or 3SM format?

  • Hi Oto,

I asked if this was possible during a recent Reality Modeling SIG Workshop and was told that it wasn't currently possible. This is too bad because I think it could be very useful.

Here's a workaround I came up with for this, but it requires some extra effort.

    1. In MicroStation, setup a camera aniamtion that orbits the 3d model and will provide rendered images similar to what you would get from a drone in the real world. I would suggest at least 24 images per orbit. You can setup multiple orbits at different elevations for more complete coverage.
    2. Render out the images.
    3. Process the rendered images in Context Capture.

If you follow those steps you should end up with a S3C/3MX/3SM of your model.

    Regards,
