Is there any way I can do the same thing as Tile Export from the Point Tools dialog in Descartes without buying a Descartes licence.
I only want to chop a gigantic point cloud into chunks that my computer can handle - I do not require anything else from Descartes.
The option does not exist in AecoSIM (for which I have a licence)

Does clipping help improve performance?
I don't think clipping will help me. I think I need to make the files physically smaller.
Even though a point cloud may be clipped we still load the whole file. What you can do to cut the file into sections is create clips and do an export and set the region filter to clip.
This will create a new pointcloud with only the area of interest. See:
