Hi,
We were working in close collaboration with Pointools many years ago and still use the POD format in some applications. We are looking for a way to include metadata in the POD format and I think that's possible. Question is how do we get a license/API for doing that?

One of options would be to use FME tools - https://docs.safe.com/fme/html/FME_Desktop_Documentation/FME_ReadersWriters/pod/pod.htm
Yes, I saw that too. In our case, it needs to be built into our own export software so we would need some kind of API and I guess it's licensed by Bentley.
Seems Cloudcompare developers has also tried - https://www.cloudcompare.org/forum/search.php?keywords=pod
FME requires Pointools so better to have direct API:
In order to read and write Pointools POD files, FME needs a valid license to a Pointools application at either the PT Edit or PT View Professional level.Platforms supported are WIN-32 and WIN-64.
Yep. Faro Scene (and their SDK) can write POD but not the metadata we are after. It's obviously possible. Just need the right agreement with Bentley and I don't know who to contact..
If it is available then it is more likely available for BDN(Bentley Developers Network) subscribers. I'm BDN member but do not see it as part of SDK so it means it is needed to be requested individually. Try here - www.bentley.com/.../bdn-inquiry-form
