Changelog: Engine is no longer using photo metadata during the SfM stage. It would cause failure in case of bad metadata. The optionis still available with a low-level preset “Use pose metadata for SfM.cfg” (improves robustness when accurate pose metadata is available).
So without using photo metadata we can expect more curved models after aerotriangulation?
Hello Oto,
no this part as nothing to due with curvature effect that you can see on some ATs.
When activated it just helps the initial image matching. Indeed if you know where the photos are and in which direction they are looking, it is easier to find the correct mtaches and avoid false positive. but using this means that you must have reliable input, else it will completely fool the software. And it is very frequent that input metadata are not that good and would harm the AT results if used at SfM stage.
Thanks
Sylvain
GPS position and gimbal orientation are two different measurements in different accuracy so no wonder it causes issues as they can't be used together.
Honestly the positions didn't help much previously for repeating patterns either so not a big loss.
