Mesh compatilibty issues

Hi everyone,

First of all, all the best in 2022!

I created a mesh using ContextCapture which I exported in different formats - 3mx, fbx, obj, Collada, dgn. The goal here is to do further analysis on the model using AutoCAD Civil 3D, but the import of files (obj, fbx) takes an unusually long and Autocad stops working while the blue circle next to the cursor spins. While importing the dgn nothing gets imported. Could someone help me with the workflow on how to do the export from ContextCapture in the right way and how to import files in AutoCad Civil? I managed to import obj to Autodesk Maya and would like to do the same for AutoCad.

Thanks in advance!

Best,
Zoran

  • There is no workflow unfortunately. Bentley is ignoring need for Reality mesh plugins in other software so reality meshes are of limited use.

How many triangles are in the mesh?

  • Hi Oto,

Thanks again for helping. I don't know how many triangles the mash has. How to check it?
However, using ContextCapture Editor I managed to open 3mx, export it as dwg, and open it in Autocad Civil. However, there are still some open questions so your inputs would be helpful:

    1. The mesh in Autocad after the export is missing facade despite the jpgs being created and they are stored in the same folder as dwg. Is there a way how to stick them to dwg mesh?

    2. It seems the quality of the mesh is reduced during the exporting. How to have the same quality of dwg mesh as it was in 3mx?
