Let's start with the basics...
I'm running MS V8i (SELECTseries 1) - Descartes.
This is what is happening.
I have a raster image (cit) which I have edited (ie resized canvas through raster manager, erased certain pieces with Touch up:Erase, etc). The dgn was saved and imported into projectwise for the client.
The client has opened the dgn with the raster using MS XM & Descartes and is saying that the erase edits were not maintained. However other edits (resize canvas for example) were maintained. Why would he not see the erased areas of the cit?

You are right that it is not likely to be related to the cache files. If it was, then the client would see none of the edits.
The raster files do not have a history, once a modification is done, the raster file itself is modified.
Are there different versions of that raster on the PW datasource? Could it be possible that the PW set links the DGN to a wrong version of the raster file? Or that the client has a different version of the raster in his working directory?
