Bentley Descartes V8i (SS3) - Pattern Components Will Not Stamp

I am trying to stamp a patterned line onto a raster plate using the Stamp Vector tool.   The pattern was generated by applying a Linear Pattern using a cell pattern from one of my Cell Libraries.   The View Settings have the Fill and Line Weights enabled and the Level Overrides turned off.    When I go to stamp, I select the black plate (the desired color I want the pattern), and click the Stamp Vector tool.   However, when I hover over the vector, a circle slash (∅) appears and nothing happens.  I've checked the Message Center, and the only level name appears in the message.   When I go to the element properties, the symbol is in the Pattern Component class.   I've tried dropping the element, but it says there is nothing to drop.   Others in my team are not having this issue, so I know it is a setting, but I cannot tell what is different about my settings and what changed to not permit me to stamp cell patterns (I used to be able to).   Can someone please help?

Thanks,

  • Hi Christie,

Could you provide us with some dataset (i.e. : the .DGN containing the pattern you are trying to stamp should be enough)?

    Thanks,

    Mathieu

  • Mathieu,

Attached is the DGN with the associated rasters.  I've also placed the cell library linepa.cel in the ZIP file.    The line pattern in question in LOWAT, which is the dotted danger curve.    The DGN should be zoomed into a Fish Haven in which the dots will not stamp.    I've been getting around this issue by copying a self drawn circle, while I have been awaiting a solution, but I have a lot of fish havens to stamp, so I'd rather not do it that way for very long.

    Thanks,

    Christie

  • I wound up taking a new seed DGN, copying all the vector and reloading the raster.   The dots stamp now.   Apparently, there was something corrupt in the existing DGN.     I would still like to know what was causing the problem in the old DGN.

  • Hi Christie,

Ok I can reproduce the problem, but I'm not sure it is a problem. The fact is your raster file are .CIT files, which are binary files whose pixels can only have two colors. So, for example, if the two colors set for a CIT file are blue and yellow, then when you try to stamp a black dot on the CIT file the pixels corresponding to the black dot will be blue or yellow, not black.

If you really want to drape the black dot you will need to convert your CIT files to a file format that support more than two colors.

Now if we come back to your dataset, when I stamp the dotted danger curve the curve seems to be really stamped, but to the same color as the fish haven, which is why the stamp doesn't appear to be working. If you want to be sure that the stamp is working, check the Delete Stamped Element option in the Stamp Vector tool settings.

That being said, I have found that if you Invert the CIT (see the Invert button at the bottom of Raster Manager as shown below) the dotted danger curve should be stamped using a color different than the fish haven.

    Thanks,

    Mathieu
