Hello, I have clients from the UK that are utilizing ArchiCAD for their designs. I have been on contract with some projects in Arizona laser scanning various sites and creating DTM's/ 3D Models of the sites from point clouds. This is an extensive work around since the client really only wants to be able to visualize their model in the context of the point cloud. Importing their model into Bentley Pointools Viewer either explodes the model into simple lines, losing the solids (DWG and DGN format does this). The only workflow I found was to import their model as an OBJ file - which doesn't bring in the materials on the surface of the model.Who would I need to talk to about obtaining a Pointools plug-in for ArchiCAD. Graphisoft would surely benefit from the world's leading point cloud rendering engine! I am speaking on animation and point clouds as used with MicroStation at the Bentley LEARNing conference in Philly coming up in May. Perhaps someone there could connect with me to talk about this possibility?
Thanks for the response - Unfortunately, my client specifically uses ArchiCAD and has not made the leap to Bentley products. I thought they could use Pointools viewer to view the point clouds superimposed with their model but alas, Pointools doesn't accept IFC for importing. See image for import options...
Hi Paul, have you tried IFC export/import with perhaps AECOsim Building Designer? Materials may need to be remapped in any workflow depending on how they have been defined in ArchiCAD vs what exists in your MicroStation workspace. From memory obj exports usually create a separate file or files with materials.
