Hi everyone,
I've tried to drape a line element on a point cloud of a scanned cavity (see picture below) to generate a section through the cloud. Is there a way to avoid these spikes (red circle in the picture) by chosing something like a maximum distance between two points of the polyline? maybe there is another way to create such a section/polyline.
Thanks a lot for your answers!
Greetings..
Hi,
The spikes occur because points from two independent surfaces (i.e. : the bottom and the roof of the cavity) are used during the draping. To avoid that you could do the following :
1- Clip the point cloud so that only the roof of the cavity remains.
2- Adjust the Height option so that its value is less than the minimum distance between the line and a point at the bottom of the cavity.
Note that there is also the Model By Section tool which might be useful in certain cases when multiples section(s) with regular shape needs to be generated (see communities.bentley.com/.../model-by-section.aspx for more information).

In addition to what Mathieu said, you should have a look at the "Snap Element" tool. It has a setting to control if you want to snap the line on the "Highest Depth" or "Lowest Depth".
