There is a lot of information about point clouds, different programs and wiki articles and I'm not sure what's worth to learn.
Can you suggest some basic information to review (links to articles, videos etc.).
Little information about some basic workflow.
I'm interested especially in creating DTM, and how to get rid off unwanted information (trees etc.) if isn't differentiated well.

If you want to create a DTM for visualization only the Scalable Terrain Model is the best option (see communities.bentley.com/.../6276.scalable-terrain-model-stm.aspx), especially if the point clouds contains a lot of points/cover a big area.
Note that when creating a STM from a classified POD files only the points classified as ground are imported. Thus you could remove unwanted information by using the Descartes' Edit Classification tool.
