I am looking for the most affordable product combination to stream LIDAR data from ProjectWise to a free or low cost viewer.
Ideally, I'd love to use the ProjectWise Web View but I thick client ProjectWise Explorer passports are probably required?
The next product possibility I'd like to consider is whether I can use Bentley View. If I create DGN files and reference in LIDAR data, can Bentley View be used as the free viewer (select customer)?
I'd rather not use Bentley Navigator or the licensed MicroStation and Descartes choices as I need to keep costs low. This is for read only users who are not designers, but wish to peruse fresh LIDAR data...

If you have LIDAR scan files they can be converted to POD files in MicroStation or Descartes. If you are just wanting to view Point Cloud files you can install Bentley Pointools PODCreator to convert your LIDAR scan files to POD files and you can then open the POD files in Bentley Pointools View to view them. There is no cost for Bentley Pointools PODCreator and Bentley Pointools View.
To view the Point Cloud files in Bentley View they must be attached in your design file before you open the design file in Bentley View.
You would have to enable the setting in ProjectWise administrator to support Point Cloud streaming.
The only setting necessary will be in ProjectWise. There is a checkbox in ProjectWise Administrator to enable streaming in ProjectWise. Under File Streaming there is an option for Point Cloud that can be set to enable.

then as Bentley View is unlimited for Select customers and you are confirming that Bentley view will work with this streaming capability?
I was checking because those Point Cloud POD tools do not support streaming from a ProjectWise.
We design Australia’s largest electricity network and regional offices are spread across the state with varying degrees of WAN latency issues. I am looking for the most expedient delivery of LIDAR information to design and non-design end-users. MicroStation, Map and Descartes should work well for design teams, where I am hoping that Bentley View will meet the other users read-only visual analysis needs.
Also, are there any suggestions for data that spans tens upon tens of kilometres of poles and wires, with regard to configuring DGN file(s) for the above scenario of tool sets?
If you are going to be using ProjectWise Streaming then you will need to look at Bentley Descartes. In order to use Bentley Pointools PODCreator and Bentley Pointools View then the files must be on your workstation. There is no cost for Bentley Pointools PODCreator and Bentley Pointools View, but there will be a cost for Descartes and ProjectWise.
You can attach your POD files in MicroStation and then open your design file in Bentley View. Bentley View cannot open pod files directly nor can it attach pod files to dgn files. We were able to use ProjectWise Streaming using Bentley View 08.11.09.459 and it worked.
