Reducing density of points from a POD as imported in microestation.

We are trying to generate solids in a dgn file to work in microestation from a POD file via importing the cloud and using the xyz coordinates tool to import the points before creating a mesh by point, we want to reduce the density of the points to say some 10%, as when trying to mesh the file crashes.

Is there a way in microestation to reduce the density of those points before converting to a mesh?

Unfortunately we don’t have Descartes at present.

  • In MicroStation in Point Cloud you can change the density of the Point Cloud file, but it will not allow you to change the density of the POD file and create a new POD file.  In Bentley Pointools you can use the Density option and the density will be applied across the whole point cloud.  In Bentley Pointools you can use a Uniform Filter to reduce the point cloud density on export.  The Uniform Filter changes the Spacing to suit your requirement.  The Uniform filter will only affect areas of point cloud whose density exceeds your filter setting.

I am guessing that you do not have Bentley Pointools, but I wanted to share the information with you in case you do have Bentley Pointools.
