Having completed a lot of editing tasks the project is saved and closed but upon reopening patches of the point cloud appear less dense.
When any editing tasks are done to a point cloud in Bentley Pointools the actions are recorded and appear as a list in the Stack. The Stack can be found on Left Hand Pane in the Bentley Pointools V8i user interface along with the Object Tree and Layer control menu. When a project (PTL) it saved it also saves the Edit Stack list which is reapplied when the project is reopened. When editing no change is made to the POD itself the changes are only recorded in the Project. Upon reloading you may notice that density of the point cloud display is reduced as the Edits are reapplied (this can also occur whilst Editing), this is expected behaviour, Bentley Pointools V8i does not need to have all the points in view to know what is being Edited, so automatically reducing density in certain areas helps performance while using the Edit tools; such as the Brush for example.
What can also happen is that the stack does not get fully re-applied when a PTL is reopened. This can be resolved by selecting the Regenerate icon found at the of the Stack tab. The Stack regeneration may take some time to apply depending on the number of edits in the Stack list.
Often you may wish to add an animation to your project. A useful workflow when a project contains a lot of editing can be to have two Projects, one for cleaning / editing the point cloud and one for your animation. To do this Export the current project to a new POD file. This will create a separate new POD file that incorporates all of the edit commands. The original POD file remains unchanged. Start a new project or if there are animation settings in your current project that you wish to retain use the “Save As” command to create a copy of your current project. You can then Detach all existing POD files and clear the Stack of all edit commands. Attach the newly created POD file to continue with your animation in the new Project.
