How to install the Faro SDK and update Bentley Pointools V8i to make it compatible with the latest version of Faro Scene

    Background

For users that cannot wait for the latest Bentley Pointools update and wish to make Bentley Pointools compatible with the latest version of Faro Scene.

    Steps to Accomplish

    1.      Download the latest Faro SDK from the Faro website:

    http://www.faro.com/faro-3d-app-center/stand-alone-apps/scene-importer-(sdk)
You will need to register for the software download. Once you have done this an email will be sent to you with download links and details. Use the links download the relevant SDK file named “faro-ls-sdk-64bit-setup”, "faro-ls-sdk-32bit-setup" or similar.
Unzip the SDK file and run the executable E.g. faro-ls-sdk-64bit-setup.exe

    2.      After installing the SDK, register the new DLLs:

Open a command prompt (as administrator):
    Windows 7

    ·        Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Accessories.

    ·        Right-click Command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

    ·        If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.

    Windows 8.1

    ·        Using a keyboard with Windows 8.1, press the WINDOWS and X keys together and then click on Command Prompt (Admin). Click Yes to the User Account Control message that appears.

    3.      Navigate to the Faro SDK installation folder

In Windows Explorer navigate to the Faro SDK installation folder. The name may vary depending on the version of SDK installed but it will be similar to the following:

Right Mouse Click file path then select copy address..
Switch to your command window and on the command line type CD and press the space bar. Next click on the C:\ icon on the top left of the Window and select Edit > Paste and press Enter on your keyboard:
You will now be in the Faro SDK folder

    4.      Register the DLL files

On the command line type regsvr32 iqopen.dll and press Enter
You should receive a message saying the DLL file has been successfully registered.
On the command line type regsvr32 faro.ls.sdk.dll and press Enter
You should again receive a message saying the DLL file has been registered successfully.

    Note:
If you need to unregister the DLL type: regsvr32 iqopen.dll -u

Additional requirements to update Bentley Pointools and the Bentley PointoolsPODCreator
    • In the Faro SDK installation folder select the file named "xerces-c_3_1.dll" and copy it to the Bentley Pointools or PODCreator installation folder (this is typically: C:\Program Files\Bentley\Bentley Pointools CONNECT Edition or for the PODCreator: C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\Bentley Pointools PODcreator) overwriting the existing file of the same name.

You are now ready to use Bentley Pointools software with the latest version of Faro Scene
