The area being converted is in small pieces of a line. The result is multiple tiny lines all going different directions. The raster image is pixelated (pixilated) and when you do Convert Area in Descartes the vector lines are jagged and have gaps.
Because the lines are so pixelated (pixilated) when the Convert Area is done it is reading the pixels as different lines.
