    Fit Cylinder Improvement

The Fit Cylinder functionality that was introduced in Bentley Descartes SELECTSeries 3 has been enhanced by
adding a filtering parameter that improves the robustness of the fit.  In Bentley Descartes SELECTSeries 3 all the points selected by the user were considered during the fit operation, making the selection of points for this tool very tedious. In Bentley Descartes SELECTSeries 4 the Fit Cylinder functionality searches amount the points selected the best candidate points that represents a cylinder, and use only those points during the creation of the cylinder.

The filtering parameter represents the maximal distance from the potential cylinder for which a point is considered to be part of that cylinder of not. In other word, for a given potential cylinder, all the points whose distance is less than the filtering parameter are considered as being part of the potential cylinder and thus used in the computation of the cylinder parameters.

Performance Tips : Using a very large filtering distance could significantly decrease the precision of the cylinder created.

Performance Tips : Using a very small filtering distance could significantly increase the computation time required to determine the best cylinder.

Here is a video showing how the new filtering parameter impacts the cylinder created.
