This maybe me but I am finding the following a little confusing.
I have a model where the annotation scale is set as 1:50.
As I read this scale from left to right I would say that the scale is telling me 1 unit in paper space is 50 units in model space.
When I hover over the scale a message pops up saying Design: Paper 50:1.
The bit I am struggling with is why is the scale value Paper : Deign but when i hover over the scale it is reversed to Design:Paper
I know that both statements refer to the same scale but why is it reversed in the message box?
Can someone help?
thanks
I think its because mstn is not talking about the scale of the drawing but using the scale of the drawing to determine the annotation scale factor to make text bigger so it appears the right size in a 1:50 sheet scale..ie 50:1 design text to paper text.
so the interpretation I put on it then is 1:50 scale requires TEXT only to be 50x's bigger for it to be shown in a drawing 1:50 final plot and show the text at standard sizes
for example my drawing is in meters my text style uses 1.8m text height in model space if I ref attach this to model space 1:50 without annotation scale my text is 1/50 of its original true size so in order to make it 1.8 mm plotted I have to go back and scale up the text so I would need to calculate the factors m :mm and 1:50 etc but with annotation scale set it works out the 50:1 ( 50X's upscale of the text style text)..
My advice dont read too much into it... just be happy your not working in imperial that really does your head in so much you need LeRoy tables to work out the text heights.....so annotation scale is great for emperial users just pick the scale and the text style size and msnt takes care of the rest...
BTW this should have been posted to Microstation Forum not the product Admin forum..

Thanks for your input but the truth is i am still struggling to get my head around this.
I have a 2D design model with some Annotations (text).
The text HxW is 0.003m.
The annotation Scale is set as Full Size 1=1.
If I change the Annotation Scale to lets say 1:5 all of my annotations are scaled up by a factor of 5 so all of my annotations are now 0.015 x 0.015m.
This part I understand.
My very simply screen shot showing how changing the Annotation Scale in my design model from 1:1 to 1:5 scales the annotation by a factor of 5.
I understand that changing the Annotation scale DOES NOT change any design elements i.e lines, shapes etc just elements that are deemed to be Annotations in my case just the text Hello World.
I have left the Annotation Scale as 1:5. Now if I hover over the drawing Scale I get a message to say that the scale is Design 5: Paper 1 as shown below.
At this stage what is mstn telling me? how would you interpret the message Design 5: Paper 1. Bear in mind that no references or sheet models are involved at this point.
My own opinion would be that the 1:5 Annotation Scale is telling me that mstn is taking the LxW of the text and is scaling it up by a factor of 5.
The message which appears when i hoover over the Drawing Scale (Design: Paper 5:1) on the other hand is telling me that if i was to scale this text down and print it than i would need to scale it to 5:1 where the text is now scaled down by a factor of 5 in order to the text to be printed in its original units of 0.003m x 0.003m.
Would you agree?
Using the same text and leaving the annotation scale set as 1 :5 I have now drawn a line under the text of length 0.08m. And i have now created a saved view. as shown below:-
Now if I reference this saved view back into my design model using the Reference Attachment Settings, there are 3 options which completely mess my head up, they are:-
- Detail Scale
- Scale (Master:Ref)
- Use Active Annotation Scale
I think that if I apply Use Active Annotation Scale than i think that the Text will be displayed 5x times larger than the original LxW - which makes sense i think.
But what the hell do Detail and Scale (Master:Ref) do?
I have read the help guide but i am still struggling to understand it.
The reason why i am asking is because it is something that i do not understand which means that i cannot explain it to other people and that just really bugs me.
