Microstation PowerDraft v8i command window

Microstation won't use the command window style key-in unless I select the user config every time the program is opened. (The user it should be loading has MS_USECOMMANDWINDOW = 1)

Also, is it possible to display grid dots instead of lines?

How are you starting PowerDraft?  You can tell it to load a specific user configuration using the -wu switch.  That's a Windows switch, not a key-in.  Start PowerDraft using something like this...

    ustation.exe -wuRyan dgnfile.dgn

Where Ryan.ucf is a user workspace file.

One question at a time please!  It's best to start a new thread for a different topic.

  • Using -wu successfully changes the user in the workspace, but in order for the command window to load I have to select a different user, return to the one I want, and then open a design file.

Also, if I open it without re-selecting the user first, there is no command window, and the next time I get it to load it moves to the end of the docked list as if I just added it.

The situation is we're planning on transferring the office from Microstation v8.5 to PowerDraft v8i, hopefully keeping the workstation as similar as possible to avoid a lot of people having to relearn the program. The user configs are set up per client, so a single person could use a few different ones per day.
  • sorry but cant  you just bring the command window from the help pull down  move it to where you want and save settings?

The user.upf file should allow  read write to save this setting. You said your using Mstn v8,5  as far as I know this is the same  feature/ option  in all Mstn8.XXX

  • If I grab the key in browser from utilities or help I am able to dock it and use it consistently. What we'd like is the command window which offers key-in functionality as well as tool specific messages. The .ucf has the configurable to turn it on, the .pcf, upf, and interface files are all available for read/write.

This command window seems to be the only setting that is only available in a session of microstation where the user has been manually picked.
