Microstation PowerDraft v8i command window

Microstation won't use the command window style key-in unless I select the user config every time the program is opened. (The user it should be loading has MS_USECOMMANDWINDOW = 1)

Also, is it possible to display grid dots instead of lines?

  • Ryan,
The jump from V8.5 to V8i is pretty significant in terms of the user interface. Having the users switch from the old Command Window to using the Status Bar and Keyin Browser are fairly minor when compared to learning the task bar navigation. Since the Command Window is a deprecated feature I would suggest you have your users get used to using MicroStation without it.

  • Melissa,
That is not entirely accurate, even though they both allow for keyin entries the Keyin Browser and Command Window are different. Using the MS_USECOMMANDWINDOW = 1 setting the bottom Status Bar is not shown and is replaced with the old style MicroStation J Command Window. In addition, closing the Command Window will close MicroStation, closing the Keyin Browser does not.

  • The keyin browser and the command window are one in the same, keyin browser is another name for it. The variable itself is set per workspace so when you switch to a different workspace it will be set differently. When you come back to the original workspace it will be loaded. If this is something that is going to be the same for all users, you may want to set it at the site level (Standards.cfg)

  • If I grab the key in browser from utilities or help I am able to dock it and use it consistently. What we'd like is the command window which offers key-in functionality as well as tool specific messages. The .ucf has the configurable to turn it on, the .pcf, upf, and interface files are all available for read/write.

This command window seems to be the only setting that is only available in a session of microstation where the user has been manually picked.
  • sorry but cant  you just bring the command window from the help pull down  move it to where you want and save settings?

The user.upf file should allow  read write to save this setting. You said your using Mstn v8,5  as far as I know this is the same  feature/ option  in all Mstn8.XXX
