importing or migrating a v8i cfg file to connect edition

We have new workstations running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, I have installed Microstation Connect Edition on them.  Old workstations were Windows 7, with Microstaton V8i SS3, installed

We use regular Microstation for our traffic signal design when working with MoDOT.  MoDOT has a V8i workspace configuration that they provide.  Previously all we had to do was save unzip the folder to our C drive, then copy a config file from that folder over to the V8i workspace directory.  Is there anyway to import or migrate that cfg file to from v8i to Connect edition?    I tried to use the configuratoin migration wizard, however it wants to have a copy of V8i installed.  Is there a way to do this without installing V8i?

Thanks

  • Mike,

If you are trying to use the MoDOT V8i workspace the easiest thing for you to do would be to use MicroStation V8i SS3 or SS4. Unless you know the ins and outs of the configuration files, trying to move custom configuration files from V8i to CONNECT will be tricky. While the config file format is the same, there are enough differences with the new configuration levels and variable changes that can drive you batty.

The CONNECT workspace migration tool only works if your V8i workspace is installed to the default Bentley location (C:\ProgramData\Bentley\Workspace). Many DOT workspaces are not in that location.

The other thing to consider is that everytime MoDOT puts out an updated workspace you will need to check for configuration changes and apply them manually to yours in CONNECT.

SS4 is certified for Windows 10 if that was the reasoning for moving to CONNECT. The SS3 workspace should work without any changes in SS4.
