Morning Folks,
Like most folks I am trying to get a better handle of CONNECT Edition by using the Bentley Learning site. After watching a few video lessons I have some questions about Workspaces and Worksets, specifically about the relationship of Workspace folders and Workset folders in the greater folder hierarchy.
Say this is the way my folder structure was set up:
CONNECT is installed here: C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\MicroStation
Workspaces folder is here: C:\BentleyCONNECT_Workspaces\
Does this mean that ALL the Workspaces I will ever use need to be under C:\BentleyCONNECT_Workspaces\ ?
Or can I put my company's Workspace here: C:\BentleyCONNECT_Workspaces\ and all my clients Workspace on another drive, say: X:\BentleyCONNECT_Client Workspaces\ ?
Along this same train of thought does the Workset folder need to reside below the related Workspace folder? Or can I put All the Workspaces on a local drive and all the Worksets on a separate server all together?
I don't know why you would do this but I am just asking the question to get a better understanding of how things behave.
I'm sure I will have further questions but this is a start of a conversation; Thanks for Your Help Y'All,

They should provide you with some more insight on the changes and the specific Configuration Variables that you will have to take into consideration.

No.
The specific variable you want to consider first will be _USTN_WORKSPACESROOT, in your instance the variable would be set to C:\BentleyCONNECT_Workspaces\
The variable will set the location of the specific .CFG files for each WorkSpace. by default when you create a new WorkSpace it will create the cfg file and an associated folder with the WorkSpace name.
The folder created would be associated with the _USTN_WORKSPACEROOT variable
When creating a new WorkSpace you can actually redirect the root folder:
If you need to move an already created WorkSpace you will have to move the specific WorkSpace folder and edit the cfg so that the _UST_WORKSPACEROOT is set to the correct location.

What would happen is you could have the folders associated to a specific WorkSpace in any location but you would need the cfg file that define the workspace to be found by _USTN_WORKSPACESROOT, which in your case would be C:\BentleyCONNECT_Workspaces\
Along the same lines in regards to WorkSets, a WorkSets folder is usually created under a specific WorkSpace Folder which looks for the cfg files that will set up individual WorkSets. This location would be defined through the _USTN_WORKSETSROOT.
_USTN_WORKSETSROOT will set the location in which cfg files are searched for and read that set up a WorkSet and if needed the cfg file could redirect the location of _USTN_WORKSETROOT.

Thank You David for your insight and the suggested resources, have a Good Day!
These articles go through the setup of a Custom Configuration step by step: CONNECT Edition - Custom Configuration Guides.
The fifth in the series covers separating WorkSet content.
