I'm having the same issue. I searched my HD for dfltuser.cfg and the search found nothing. Can you tell me where this file should reside?

manually editing the dfltuser.cfg and setting it to the proper user fixed this issue.

and you choose this to be used - correct (OA)? then you should have an OA.upf not an IDOT.upf and when you open a file, under the workspace>about workspace - user configuration should be OA.ucf and preferences should be OA.upf (are these what are being listed under "about workspace" ?)

When the manager is opened it is defaulted to "examples". OA is available to be selected as a user.

at the MicroStation manager the user should be set to OA - do you have a user choice of OA for user ?

It is Bentley GEOPAK suite V8i (select series 4)

The only line of code in the .cfg file is "_USTN_USERNAME = OA" which is the user name i was using.

the IDOT.upf is located in this folder as well and is being updated upon closing.

ok - now I am really confused. If you were using the delivered MicroStation examples user, it would not put it under the program data folder structure and it would have the name examples.upf. I see some "civil" in the directory structure and "civil" in part of the UPF name - soooo my guess is you are not using MicroStation ? Maybe Inroads or GeoPak ?

Once you opened a file and looked up the variable - this should be where the *.upf is located and being used. Open up the dfltuser.cfg file located in the IDOT folder structure and tell me what all is in this file.

I opened Microstation up using the "examples" user looked up the pref file location. Then I opened it up using my created user with the DOT project. i used Workspace/Configuration/MS_userpref to determine where it was saving preferences. Below are copied out from the MS_USERPREF for each one.

Examples user

C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\WorkSpace\projects\examples\Bentley-Civil-Imperial\prefs\Bentley-Civil-Imperial.upf

My Created user with DOT project

C:\IDOTCAD\IDOTStandard\prefs

(where the dfltuser.cfg is located)

I am confused - why do you have two different prefs folders ? and how are you getting MicroStation to look at these two different folders ?

So i have located both pref folders. The examples user and the created user with the DOT project both route the pref to different folders (followed the paths in the workspace/config/ms_userpref). The dfltuser.cfg is located in the DOT pref folder and it updates to the created user whenever Microstation is opened or closed. I have read/write access in both of the folders.

As Tim suggested you need to find the prefs folder. The prefs folder contains a CFG file dfltuser.cfg, when MicroStation opens this file will determine which user will be pre-selected. Usually this is updated when MicroStation closes a file.

locate the "prefs" folder where MicroStation is storing the user preferences file. Do you have read/write access to the folder and files located there ?

The user was created through the Microstation manager. The project that was selected was supplied by the DOT. They are available as a selection, but they are not held or remembered the next time the product is started. None of the Microstation settings within the program are held from the created user either when it is re-opened.

did you create the user and project thru the MicroStation manager ? or was this done some other way ? and when at the MicroStation manager, are these choices available to you, it is just that they are not held/remembered the next time you start the product ?

right mouse click on the icon and go to properties. Look at the target. Are there any addition switches added after the ustation.exe ?

I launch it using a desktop icon. It is currently running on a local machine, but I have also tried using the company network without any luck.

how do you launch MicroStation ? (IE: with a desktop icon) Where is the custom workspace located ? (IE:local machine, network, etc...)
