Good Morning,
I have a .dgn file that when I look at the Level Display it list a large number of levels with elements on that level and is used but I cannot see them. I make on active and turn off all the others and fit view and nothing is there. They do not seem to really be there but they are listed. Does anyone have any idea how I can remove them from the Level Display list if they are really not there or why they are listed to begin with?
I have attached a sample file. Thanks0012638UTLE.dgn!
God bless,
David
If you look at the levels through the level manager you will find that a number of the levels that appear empty have shared cell definitions in them. These are not physical elements but do cause the level to be seen as used.
If you need to delete the levels you can refer to the following:
https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/w/microstation__wiki/11970/delete-empty-levels-with-defined-shared-cells
Alternatively you can remap the shared cell definitions to another level.
Hi David,
I'd like to confirm David's information: In your file the most of levels can be deleted easily, because they are not used. As used only 99 from 4904 levels are reported. From the mentioned 99 some are "normally used levels", but the rest is a bit complicated. If your intention is to delete the levels only, the article linked by David is the good way, especially "level purge" key-in is usefull.
If you are interested in exactly why some levels cannot be deleted, it requires step by step analysis: For example UTLE_E_Tele-Cell level is displayed as used, but only UFO BOX shared cell definition is at this level, so it should be possible to delete it. Unfortunately not, because this cell is used at some other places at a design file. You can find 5 instances of this shared cell and when they are deleted, levels UTLP_P_Traf-Ctrl-Cell and UTLP_P_Tele-Cell will become empty, the shared cell definition is not used anymore and can be removed from the level. At the end, 3 levels are now empty and can be deleted.
To analyse the whole file this way requires quite long time...

You can also look in the Project Explorer to see what is in the file, this will list objects such as shared cells that you might otherwise be unaware of.
See Compress Options for more information on the options available. Note that if you have a problem with a number of files there are a number of key-ins that carry out the same operations that can be applied using a batch process.

Thank you Marc I will look into this option.

Thank you Jan, I will definitely look into all that you talk about. I will surely be looking into the shared cell definitions.
