We utilize as much out of the box as possible when using Bentley PowerInroads Products. We have a redirect file pointed to a server(workspace) and all the user profiles are located on the servers as well. Two employees recently received new machines. PowerInroads will open but then hangs up after selecting a file to open. If these two users log into another machine they are able to launch PowerInroads without any issues.
First thing to check is the anti-virus software settings on these new computers, make sure it is not scanning the dgn files when opening in PowerInRoads.
Server based workspaces are fine, but the server based user profiles can be problematic. Bentley recommends the user profiles be stored locally to avoid corruption issues.

I would first suggest running a debug on the machines not working and comparing that against a machine that is working.

On the new machines if you use the delivered workspace can it open any file if not then the installation might require a repair/reinstall.
attached are the TWO debug files. I don't see anything jumping out at me. ZM_current_machine_msdebug.txtZM_new_machine_msdebug.txt
MicroStation V8i SS10 Ver. 08.11.09.912
PowerInroads V8i SS10 Ver. 08.11.09.918

yes the new machine will open files with the delivered workspaces without any issues. what's strange is another user logged into the new machine and launched powerinroads without any issues.
