Can V8I (v8.11.09.459) support the creation of new Drop Down menus? or can it only import old .stg files?
The Deprececated Application Notification is all that pops up when trying to load the old Settings Manager.
The Element Templates only seems to allow for .stg files to be imported....
Yes it supports custom drop down menu's. You have to open the dgnlib file then you will be able to customize V8i.
My dgnlib is called "interface.dgnlib", but yours may be called something else. You can look through the configuration to see where its located.
Check the "_USTN_USERINT" variable for your location.

Thanks Jon, I I have successfully created a .dgnlib but I want to edit an existing .stg. The current workspace I open I can hit F11 and my dropdown menu magically appears. I go into Workspace --> Customize and there is no dgnlib listed under User Tools...so I'm not sure how it is accessing a bunch of custom cells if I can't see them in the list under Customize? It has something to do with the user configuration (.ucf) ....
You have to open the actual .dgnlib file then customize the workspace.
I have updated my .dgnlib with one new tool to see if it works, but the dropdown menu to access the tool doesn't seem to work? I have it set up as
MDL KEYIN SETMGR FILE OPEN DropDown.stg. Is this syntax correct and is there something else that needs to be set in the configuration in order for my .dgn to access this?
Settings Manager was deprecated some time ago, I'm not certain what changed in 08.11.09.459 but can offer the following suggestions from our documentation:
In MicroStation help look for the topic "Importing Custom Tools from Settings Manager Files" (or just search for .stg):
"If you used earlier editions of MicroStation, you can import data from one or more Settings Manager files (STG files) into element templates. If an STG file entry uses a key-in or a lock, then a corresponding toolbox and tool will be created when you import the template data."
There is additional information about migrating from older customization methods in Migrating Customizations to MS V8i.
I hope this helps.
