[CE] Connect Workspaces vs V8i Workspaces - Is there Documentation Available to Explain Equivalency and Additions?

While we are still working in V8i, we are also watching Connect Edition developments as we know we will eventually wind up there.

What I am looking for a some type of explanations and guidance on Connect Edition Workspaces and what is new, what has been migrated. I'm pretty comfortable in my V8i Workspace and modifying them. But Connect seems to be a new beast, with new terminology and I was hoping that there is some guidance available, rather than having to brute force my way into Connect Workspaces.

  • Here is what I can share to help you get your head around how it maps to the old. I personally feel that CE is way better organized than the older structure but I am a little biased.

    CE = v8

    System is basically moved up into the application now and the tools were being written to work without any need of a workspace.
    Organization = Standards (organization is used by all users)
    Workspace = Project (specific to a client or discipline, controls available worksets)
    WorkSet is similar to user (This is a kind of situation as user is now specific to the individual, workset is selectable part like user in v8i and its own cfg but nothing to do with the actual user of the software)
    User is specific to the logged in user (setting are now stored at this level for the individual users, function keys, ui, shortcuts, etc, these are all controlled with seeds)

    ORD adds another layer to this they call it ORG_Civil and the Workspace loads a named org_civil configuration.

    Bentley has some wedinars on the subject.  Here is a link for one coming up.
