Shortcuts display on french Keyboard

We use the keyboard top line (1234567890) for almost all our shortcuts but on the AZERTY french Keyboard they are mapped to &é"'(-è_ç

So we get this:

This is very hard to memorize. Would it be possible to have this display ?

  • Hi Christophe,

    The characters used by these shortcuts are stored in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Bentley\MicroStation\10.0.0\prefs\Personal.KeyboardShortcuts.xml.

    You should be able to modify the characters used and save them you your own version of that file, then share it with your colleagues, either by just copying it around, or by putting it on your network and defining MS_KEYBOARDSHORTCUTS to point to the modified file.

    These are the English language shortcuts, I'm wondering if the French version just does not match this?:

  • I realize our set up is weird because we have a french keyboard but we use the english version of Microstation CONNECT !!

    (we always used english version of Bentley softwares.. much easier to get support and understand the forum :))

    I tried to edit directly the XML file by changing the comment field, but it doesn't work.

    </KeyboardShortcut>
    <KeyboardShortcut ScanCode="0x04" Comment="3">    (change comment from " to 3)
    <Label>Manipulate</Label>
    <KeyboardShortcuts>
    <KeyboardShortcut ScanCode="0x02" Comment="1">  (change comment from & to 1)

    I still get this result below.

    Nevermind. This is not important. I will find a workaround.

    Christophe.

  • HI Christophe,

    I found this page that shows the ScanCode is correctly linked to each key. The mapping between the physical keys and the scancodes is the same for a US international English keyboard.

    Using the unused (in English) letters J and U, I also find that a change made to the xml is not read by the Keyboard Settings dialog. Now I'm even more curious and will look into this.

    By the way just for completeness, am I right in assuming that your Windows OS is French language?

  • HI Marc,

    thank you for your investigations.

    Yes. Windows OS, french. Keyboard french (AZERTY), Microstation U12 and OpenBuilgings U5 in english.

  • Hi Christophe,

    A colleague has suggested the following, which seems now seems obvious to me, but as I only use English didn't come to mind earlier!

    In Windows add English as second input method as shown below. Then, toggle the input language either by key-in [Windows key + Space] or from the taskbar:

  • Hi Marc,

    I really appreciate your support and thank you for all this, but please, stop wasting your precious time on my silly question !!

    I wasn't clear enough.

    Microstation work exactly (this time - sorry for being sarcastic! -) as expected.

    On the french keyboard, pressing the first key on top will give you : &

    So i mapped "&" to "Element Selection" and it works (sometimes not so well because of strange delays, but this is a completely different subject).

    My concern was only "display probem" or "memorization problem". In France nobody knows that pressing the first key give you "&", we all knwow that we have to press the "1" Key to get "&". So i tried to figure a way to shows "1" instead of "&" on the shorcut manager. You see, it is in only a display problem: the keyboard scancode is correct and i don't want to change it (it will be silly to press SHIFT+Key"1" ).

    I was just expecting that in the XML code, the comment field could help me

    <KeyboardShortcut ScanCode="0x02" Comment="&">

    But it does not. Changing comment from "&" to "1" does nothing (by the way what is the purpose of this Comment field ?).

    I ended up with this little chart wich tooks me 5 min and it is all we need.

    regards,

    Christophe
