It is the most intrusive program I have ever seen since last time I installed a free antivirus-program. If this can't be removed I am seriously going to look into switcing to a competitor, because this is marketing done wrong. I don't want this, I can't imagine anyone except the CEO of Bentley who wants this, and there is no reason why you should need this when the competitors doesnt
Hello Espen,
I assume that you are referring to the Bentley CONNECTION Client. This is now part of our licensing mechanism so is installed with our products. Please can you let us know which Bentley product(s) you are currently using? That would help us to give you more guidance.
If you sign in to the client it will remember you, and once signed in there are options that will keep it in the background.
Sorry about the congratulatory message from Bentley Communities, this is part of the system, but they are very infrequent. (In fact so infrequent that I have not bothered spending time to find out if/how they can be turned off!)
Marc
Hi, It's the Connection client yes. It has no use what so ever. All the competitors manage without, so this is basically just a prime example on how not to do marketing, and a great way to loose customers. Offcourse review-pages of CAD-programs is going to notice such a usless spam-thing, and that will in turn make sure some future cad-customers will look elsewhere. I am using Microstation.
Hi Marc
It's more the need to sign in as the people in the meeting may not be regular Microstation users and won't remember their login details. It's a difficult sell as it's harder than V8i SS3 which doesn't need the Connect client.
We can federate Bentley sign in with active directory to get around that. It requires liaison between your IT and the right team at our end, it's not a self-service option.
That could help. Would there be a cost to implement?
Hi Marc,
Thank you for the suggestion. It has been a long time since I've tried something like that. Also, I have a secondary situation, I'm running the Licensing Adapter. Previously I removed the entry from the registry, but every time I would start a Bentley product, it would add it back in. This morning on my home Windows 10 computer, I saw the Bentley licensing in the Task Manager/Startup, but I did not see the Connection Client itself. I may do some further testing (again).
--Thanks,--Robert
